Leadership and Motivational Decision Making
A 2-Day Short Course
Leaders and managers must make decisions in a rapidly changing environment across cultural, political, social, and international barriers. This course presents an easily learned and implemented method for deciding when to tell, sell, consult, join, or delegate your decisions. Learn to easily recognize when to use and when not to use each style depending on the situation, group, and leader characteristics.
Most leaders and managers think of themselves as consult, join, or delegate decision makers, but when their subordinates are surveyed, these same leaders and managers are classified as tell or sell decision makers.
After introducing this leadership framework for decision making, instruction shows you how to incorporate this into leading and motivating others by using McGregor’s Theory X and Y, Herzberg’s, and McClelland’s leadership and motivational approaches. In addition, you learn how to work with your theory X or Y manager and to use these tools to prepare you to be an outstanding subordinate, coworker, and/or leader. Finally, applying these leadership and motivational techniques in different countries also are included.
In this highly participative, hands-on course, a lively mix of lecture, discussion, case studies, and role-playing scenarios allow you to immediately apply this back on the job, in your home environment, or in a volunteer organization.

Donald S. Remer, PhD, PE, President, Claremont Consulting Group, and Oliver C. Field Professor of Engineering Economics and Management, Harvey Mudd College, Claremont, California. As a professional engineer and manager, Dr. Remer has been managing projects, performing cost estimation and project feasibility studies, and doing technical and economic evaluations for over 30 years. As an educator, he has presented professional seminars and short courses on a diverse range of project management topics to over 12,000 professionals.
Dr. Remer’s clients range from small entrepreneurs to Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and national laboratories, including Amgen, Beckman-Coulter, Boeing, Booz-Allen & Hamilton, DIRECTV, Disney, eCivis, GEC Marconi, Hewlett-Packard, Lear Astronics, St. Jude Medical, Northrop Grumman, QAD, Raytheon, Sequent Computer, TRW, FAA, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Sandia, Lawrence Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore, and Los Alamos National Laboratories, County of San Bernardino, City of Tucson,U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Air Force.
